Welcome to the website of Dr. Thomas O. Clanton, Director of Foot and Ankle Sports Medicine for The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. As an internationally renowned foot, ankle and knee specialist, Dr. Clanton is an expert in the treatment of disorders and conditions associated with the foot, ankle and knee including degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis, as well as sports related injuries. For more than ten years, he has focused his practice on the foot and ankle, and through research and outstanding patient care, he is looked to by orthopaedic surgeons around the world for insight into the latest surgical techniques associated with the lower extremities.

Dr. Clanton is an expert in arthroscopic foot, ankle and surgery, and uses this approach to treat a variety of sports-related, genetic, and degenerative conditions. He is a passionate researcher into the distinct causes of debilitating foot, ankle and knee injuries, and is also a pioneer in ankle replacement surgery.

Innovative Approaches

Using a variety of surgical approaches, including arthroscopy, microsurgery, and open techniques, Dr. Clanton is diversely skilled to treat numerous complex cases of the foot, ankle and knee. He is an expert in syndesmosis, hallux injuries, turf toe, fractures, claw toes, and osteochondritis. His most renowned surgical approach to treat osteoarthritis includes the Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacement which he began offering to patients in 1998.
